Between 2005 and 2010, the Malayalam cinema industry saw new actresses establishing their presence in the industry. Few actresses climbed to stardom during this period, and Bhavana Menon was one among them. After 2012, Bhavana distanced herself from the Malayalam industry and shifted her base to the Kannada industry. In a recent interview with Bharadwaj Rangan on Galatta Plus, Bhavana said that she was rejecting offers from the Malayalam industry without any valid reason.

“ I felt a need to stay away from Malayalam cinema. It might have been a hasty decision. Aashiq Abu, Prithviraj, Jayasurya and Mammootty offered me roles, but I rejected them all. I still don’t know the exact reason why I said no. I was not mentally ready to do Malayalam movies at that time. Kannada cinema was my comfort zone, and I liked doing movies there. I came back to Malayalam after four or five years.

The makers of ‘Ntikkakkakkoru Premondarnn’ (2023) offered me a role, but as usual, I rejected it. They told me to just go through the script, but I was not interested. I knew the fact that if I liked the script, I would get that urge to do the movie. I was mentally not prepared for a return to Malayalam cinema. My friends asked me why I was rejecting all the offers and what I got in return after doing so. I thought about it and made a course correction. I contacted the makers and agreed to go through the script. I did the movie eventually.”
