NEW DELHI: The BJP has initiated proceedings in the Lok Sabha seeking the disqualification of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has submitted a notice to move a substantive motion against Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he misled the House. The move follows heated exchanges between BJP members and Rahul Gandhi over multiple issues, including remarks related to an unpublished book by former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane. Rahul Gandhi had also alleged that Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s name figured in the Epstein files, triggering strong objections from the treasury benches.

In the notice, the BJP questioned the source of Rahul Gandhi’s funding and accused him of attempting to destabilise the country. It called for the revocation of his Lok Sabha membership. The party alleged that Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly created controversies with the intent of defaming the government and has raised baseless and unethical allegations both inside Parliament and on public platforms to influence public opinion.

The notice further claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s “arrogant attitude” stems from his alleged association with the Soros Foundation. It cited a speech delivered by him on February 11, 2026, in which he referred to several Indian corporate groups and allegedly suggested that their proximity to large business houses had weakened the country’s banking system. According to the BJP, such statements are aimed at creating instability in the nation.

Rahul Gandhi was previously disqualified as a Member of Parliament in 2023 following his conviction in a defamation case. A Gujarat court had sentenced him to two years in prison over remarks concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surname.
