Actor Prem Kumar to join Congress? High post offered, to meet K C Venugopal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There are hints that Prem Kumar, former chairman of the Chalachitra Academy and actor, is leaving the Left Front and joining the Congress. It is reported that Prem Kumar held preliminary discussions with AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal. It is also reported that the two may meet in person tomorrow.

The Congress leadership had started efforts to bring Prem Kumar into the party. As part of this, the Thiruvananthapuram DCC president had earlier spoken to him, but the actor did not give a clear answer at that time. However, the present situation has changed. Prem Kumar had publicly expressed his anger over being removed from the post of Chalachitra Academy chairman.

Reports say the leadership had promised to provide him with appropriate positions if he joined the Congress. However, Prem Kumar said that no such discussions were held presently. He is not a member of any political party. It is impossible to predict what will happen tomorrow. He added that there should be an opportunity to express opinions freely and fearlessly.
