BHUBANESWAR: A youth and his mother, who were undergoing treatment after being seriously injured in a bomb explosion at their house, have died. The incident took place on January 27 within the limits of the Airfield police station in Odisha. The deceased have been identified as notorious gangster Shahnawaz Malik (26) and his mother Lizatun Bibi (51).

Shahnawaz succumbed to his injuries on February 4. His mother, who was undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College in Cuttack, died on February 10. Shocking visuals of the explosion are now circulating on social media.

According to police, the explosion occurred while Shahnawaz was allegedly making a bomb on the terrace of his house. His fiancée, Truptimayee Mahal (23), and his associate, Amiya Mallik (27), were also seriously injured in the incident. Both are currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Police said that around seven criminal cases, including attempt to murder and violations under the Arms Act, were registered against Shahnawaz. He had been released on bail six months ago after being jailed in connection with a political clash. He was reportedly under police surveillance.

Investigators suspect that multiple country-made bombs were present at the site during the explosion and that careless handling may have caused the blast. The Airfield Police Station is continuing a detailed investigation into the incident.
