PATHANAMTHITTA: Seethathode residents will no longer need to cross the forest to watch movies. The Panchayat Administrative Committee has found a solution to the locals' complaint that there is no cinema theatre. A theatre with state-of-the-art facilities has been prepared in the newly constructed Panchayat Shopping Complex. It is named Galaxy Cinemas. Minister M.B. Rajesh and actress Bhavana will inaugurate it on the 28th. The cinema theatre is the first in Kerala to be started under the ownership of the Panchayat.
The main attraction is the 4K laser projector that provides a great sound and visual experience. This is the seventh theater in the state with this system. Other features include 143 pushback seats, Dolby Atmos sound system, etc. The construction cost is Rs. 6 crore. The Panchayat Shopping Complex, built on four floors, is located at Seethathode Market Junction. The complex will also have a modern restaurant, guest room, shopping mall, fish stall, shop rooms, etc.
20 years without a theatre
The last theatre in Seethathode has been gone for 20 years. Till then, it was a Priya theatre made of sheets. Seethathode locals used to go to faraway places to watch movies. The panchayat has a scheme to provide homestays for tourists coming to Konni Elephant Camp, Gavi, Perunthenaruvi etc. and to prepare viewpoints and parks in Seethathode. The money for the construction of the theatre was allocated from the panchayat's plan fund. The development fund of KU Jenish Kumar MLA was also utilised. The total cost of the construction of the shopping complex cum theatre is 16.93 crores.
More than a hundred people will get employment once the cinema, theatre, and shopping complex are fully operational.
