TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga made his first-ever response to the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and vowed that revenge was on its way.
"It is our duty and right to take revenge. A horrific crime was committed. All those behind this will have to pay a heavy price. Khamenei's assassination is a declaration of war against Muslims and Shiites around the world," said Masoud Peshmerga.
Iran also warned that the Revolutionary Guards, Iran's military wing, would carry out the largest military operation in its history against Israel and American military bases. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also stated that a heavy blow would be struck against the "vile criminals."
Internet service is currently completely blocked in most areas of Iran. NetBlocks reported that connectivity has dropped to one per cent. Following Khamenei's death, Ayatollah Alireza Arafi has been appointed as the new interim supreme leader.
