A total of 178 houses have been handed over as part of the completion of the first phase of the Wayanad Model Township project. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that this initiative highlights the Kerala model of unity and love, showcasing it to the country and the world. The distribution of pattayams (land titles) to families allotted houses serves as a response to the misinformation being spread against the state. These 178 homes, part of a project spanning 64 hectares in Kalpetta Elston Estate, were provided to individuals whose houses were completely destroyed in the Mundakai-Churalmala disaster.

The government has spent Rs 17.2 crore to provide monthly financial assistance to disaster victims. This includes Rs 13 crore distributed as relief assistance, Rs 1.3 crore in emergency financial aid, and Rs 2 crore allocated to assist 21 children who lost their parents in the disaster. Additionally, 858 families are receiving food coupons worth ₹1,000 per month. Donations to the Wayanad Disaster Relief Fund have totaled Rs 773.98 crore, thanks to contributions from organizations, individuals, and expatriates from various backgrounds. The governments of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh contributed Rs 10 crore each, while Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan donated Rs 5 crore each.

One of the most significant services provided by the government to assist disaster victims was the complete assumption of their loan arrears. The government has taken over the arrears for 1,620 loans belonging to 555 beneficiaries across various banks, amounting to Rs 18.75 crore. The greatest aspiration of the survivors was to live together again, and the government has fulfilled that dream within two years. Facilities such as a health center, anganwadi (childcare center), community center, public market, landslide memorial, open theater, multipurpose hall, library, playgrounds, and an electricity substation are also being constructed in the township.

The Uralungal Labour Contract Society, which completed the first phase of construction work in record time and with excellent quality, deserves commendation for its dedicated efforts. This society has the machinery, expertise, and excellence to execute various projects. Notably, it has also completed the construction of the Thalappady-Chengala stretch, a 39-km stretch of national highway in Kasaragod district, ahead of schedule, and it has opened to traffic without any reported collapses.

While criticism may arise from familiarity, the excellence of this world-class society is acknowledged by many. The Wayanad Model Township stands as one of the significant achievements of the LDF government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
