Mother of law student Jisha murdered in Perumbavoor, dies

KOCHI: Rajeshwari (62), mother of Jisha, a law student murdered in Perumbavoor, has died. She died Monday evening while undergoing treatment for pneumonia at the Kalamassery Medical College. Late Pappu was her husband. She has another daughter Deepa, who is village assistant in Koovappady. She will be laid to rest Tuesday afternoon at Koovappady Mayoorapuram Crematorium.

Jisha of Perumbavoor was murdered on April 28 in 2016. The accused barged into her house on the poramboke land and murdered her. Her postmortem report said that she was subjected to brutal rape. There were 38 injuries on her body. The accused Ameerul Islam of Assam was arrested two months after the murder.

The chargesheet in the case was filed in September 2016. The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court sentenced the accused to death on December 14, 2017. However, the Supreme Court later stayed the verdict.
