Devadath Shaji, writer of the superhit movie Bheeshma Parvam, ignited a debate on social media following his cryptic social media post alluding to the movie ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’.
On the 19th of March, Devadath uploaded an Instagram story with the writing “If a movie uses high-quality making to validate a wrong idea, the technical skill becomes a tool for manipulation.” Netizens opined that it was a veiled attack on the new Bollywood movie, which is already at the receiving end of criticism for propagating the ideology of the ruling party of India.
Many aligned with Devadath's response, while the writer also faced flak from some quarters of social media. Few dissected the movie ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ and questioned the writer’s notion behind valorising a community while portraying another as villainous.
Despite the popular criticism that it is a propaganda movie, Dhurandhar continues dominating the box office with the overall collection already surpassing Rs 370 crores in just three days. The film is running packed screens in Kerala, with tickets sold out already for the weekend show.
