TEHRAN: Iran claims to have shot down a state-of-the-art US military F-15 fighter jet over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran claims that the plane was shot down using its air defence systems. The news agency reported this, citing a statement from Iran's Joint Air Defence Command. However, no pictures or videos of the plane or the pilot have been released. Iran had previously claimed to have shot down an F-15 fighter jet. A video of the plane and the pilot falling was released that day.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump threatened to attack Iran's power plants if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened within 48 hours. Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, that the Strait of Hormuz must be fully opened for shipping, or he will destroy various Iranian power plants.

Three weeks into the war against Iran, Trump is facing a crisis that is spiralling out of control. Global oil prices are soaring. Trump seems to be isolated from his allies. He is also having to deploy more troops to a war that they initially deemed would end in just a few days.
