TEHRAN: Iran’s Foreign Ministry has rejected claims by US President Donald Trump that talks are underway to end the West Asian conflict. The ministry said Trump’s statement is part of efforts to bring down oil prices and gain time to carry out military plans. It also stated that some countries in the region are making attempts to reduce tensions. Iran clarified that it did not start the war and said any request to end the conflict should be directed to the United States.
Meanwhile, Trump said that ceasefire discussions are being held with a senior leader in Iran. However, he clarified that the talks are not with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Trump claimed that the first and second levels of Iran’s leadership have been almost completely wiped out. He added that the person currently involved in talks is one of the most respected leaders in Iran. Trump also said there is no clear information about whether Mojtaba Khamenei is alive, and that only statements in his name are being released without further details.
