National award-winning director Vetrimaaran came out strongly against 'propaganda' now deftly used in movies. Vetrimaaran's statement is likely to be a criticism of the recent movie Dhurandhar: The Revenge. The director made the statement while participating in the trailer launch of the movie Neelira, which is based on the events of the Sri Lankan civil war.
"Today, everything is propaganda, and it has the power to influence memory. We all know what happened after demonetization and how many lives were lost when people stood in queues for hours. But we can easily change the narrative using a movie. So, what can we do against hate propaganda?" Vetrimaaran said.
Though the director didn’t mention the movie name, social media discussions pointed fingers at the Dhurandhar movie, which is breaking all records at the box office and even valorised the demonetization move . Earlier, prominent YouTuber Dhruv Rathi also slammed Dhurandhar and even called director Aditya Dhar a BJP pracharak.
