NEW DELHI: Iran has assured India that there is no cause for concern regarding the disruption of shipping traffic following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian Embassy in India informed the public via X that "Our Indian friends are in safe hands, no worries", noting that only a select group of countries—including Iran, China, Russia, Iraq, and Pakistan—have been permitted to utilise the route after it was closed in response to Israeli-US attacks.
While the disruption initially triggered a crisis in the supply of crude oil and LPG to nations like India, eight Indian ships, including those carrying 94,000 tonnes of LPG, have successfully passed through the Strait. However, 19 vessels transporting LPG, crude oil, and LNG to India remain among the approximately 500 ships currently stranded due to the conflict. Iranian authorities are reportedly making arrangements to allow these stranded vessels, which include ten foreign and eight Indian ships, to exit the Strait on a priority basis.
