NASHIK: In a tragic incident, nine members of a family, including six children, were killed after a car fell into a water-filled well. The accident occurred around 11:30 pm on Friday in Dindori, about 40 km from Nashik.
The victims were from Indore and were returning after attending a function at a hall in Shivaji Nagar. The deceased have been identified as Sunil Dattatreya Dargode (34), his wife Reshma (27), their daughter Rakhi (10), his sister Asha Anil Dargode (32), nieces Madhuri (13), Shravani (11), Samruddhi (7), son Shreyas (11), and daughter Srishti (14).
The car was largely submerged in the water-filled well. Locals first tried to carry out rescue operations, but their efforts failed. Police and fire service teams later took charge of the operation, and a crane was brought in to assist. The rescue took several hours, but all the occupants had died by then.
It is suspected that one child was thrown out of the car into the water during the accident. Efforts are ongoing to locate the child.
Police said the driver may not have noticed the well in the dark, which could have led to the accident. The car was tightly lodged inside the well, making rescue operations difficult and causing delays. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
