WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning after crucial talks with Iran began under the mediation of Pakistan to end the ongoing conflict. Trump was responding to questions from reporters about the talks, which started after a delay of nearly five hours. He said discussions are still ongoing but added that it is unclear what the outcome will be.
“The talks are continuing, but we don’t know what will happen,” Trump said.
He warned that if the negotiations fail, the United States would launch an unprecedented attack on Iran.
“If the talks fail, there will be an attack on Iran like never before,” he said.
Trump described Iran as a “country that is being destroyed.” He also spoke about the Strait of Hormuz, saying it would be opened soon and that alternative oil routes would also be developed.
“The Strait of Hormuz will soon be opened for oil shipments, with or without Iran’s cooperation,” he said.
US Vice President JD Vance is in Islamabad to take part in the talks.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the talks would only be useful if the United States does not break its promises. He also stated that Iran has demanded an end to Israel’s attacks in Lebanon as a condition.
