ISLAMABAD: Peace talks have been thrown into uncertainty after the Iranian delegation left Islamabad without waiting for US representatives. The team, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, returned after holding discussions with Pakistani leaders. Following this, US President Donald Trump announced that the planned visit of US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan has been cancelled.
Meanwhile, there are reports that the Iranian delegation may return for talks by Sunday or Monday, though there has been no official confirmation. The team is believed to be heading to Muscat, the capital of Oman. Araghchi had earlier said that the delegation would visit Oman and Russia.
During their visit to Pakistan, Araghchi and his team held talks with Army Chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Iranian representatives reportedly shared their proposals to end the conflict with Pakistani leaders. Pakistan is expected to discuss these proposals with the United States. US representatives were earlier scheduled to arrive in Islamabad for talks, but their visit was cancelled after the Iranian delegation departed.
