Iran questions Pakistan's neutrality in US-Iran talks

TEHRAN: Iran has raised concerns over the role of Pakistan as a mediator in diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran. Iranian officials have questioned whether Pakistan can act in a neutral manner at this crucial stage. The criticism comes at a time when key issues such as tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear policies remain unresolved.

Iranian Member of Parliament Ebrahim Rezaei, who is also the spokesperson of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, strongly opposed Pakistan’s role as a mediator. While he acknowledged that Pakistan is a friendly neighbouring country, he said it lacks the credibility needed to act as a neutral mediator in such sensitive diplomatic discussions. Rezaei pointed out that Pakistan often aligns itself with the United States and rarely questions its decisions.

He also alleged that Pakistan tends to consider the interests of US President Donald Trump and does not speak against US positions. He added that even when the US fails to keep its promises, Pakistan does not raise its voice internationally. A mediator, he said, must always remain neutral and should not lean towards one side.
