THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The latest report suggests that the finance department has imposed restrictions on treasury payments due to the severe financial crisis in the state. According to sources, the department has ordered the treasury not to pass any bills except those of urgent needs. As per the order, all payments except those to 31 urgent items have been stopped.

It is also learnt that restrictions have been imposed on money for daily activities. It must be noted that though there was a similar crisis in the past, the finance department had never put forward such unlimited restrictions. According to earlier conditions, only those bills above Rs 5 lakh required permission from the finance department. The latest development has aroused a concern that the present crisis is more serious than ever before.
