CHENNAI: Actor Vijay Sethupathi, who is known for voicing out his opinion on various social issues in the past, including the cauvery river water issue, has now released a video making an important request to the governor of Tamil Nadu.
A social media campaign is running, demanding the release of one of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Perarivalan. Perarivalan has been in prison for 29 years, and the statement in the Supreme Court given by V. Thiagarajan, the CBI SP who interrogated Perarivalan had given a clean chit to Perarivalan.
In his video, Vijay Sethupathi says that the verdict of the supreme court must be respected, and the governor must release Perarivalan soon. He mentions that it's a 29 year struggle for Arputhammal, the mother of Perarivalan, and that an innocent must not be punished and hence Perarivalan must be released soon.
Movie stars, directors, writers, political leaders and activists participated in a social media campaign that demanded the immediate release of A.G. Perarivalan, one of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, imprisoned for close to 30 years.
Filmmakers Pa. Ranjith, Karthik Subbaraj, Lokesh Kanagaraj, cinematographer P.C. Sreeram, music composer Santhosh Narayanan, actors Prakash Raj and Vijay Sethupathi and many others shared posts in support of the immediate release of Perarivalan with a hashtag #ReleasePerarivalan.
