Aashiq Abu and Prithviraj withdraw from movie 'Variyamkunnan'

KOCHI: Director Aashiq Abu and actor Prithviraj have withdrawn from the movie 'Variyamkunnan'. There are indications that differences in opinion with producers is behind this. Aashiq Abu announced 'Variyamkunnan' in June 2020.

The movie crew had earlier said that the film would be produced by Sikander and Moideen under the banner of Compass Movies Limited. Ashiq Abu was also involved in the production under the banner of OPM Cinemas. Harshad and Rameez were announced as the screenwriters for the film. But Rameez withdrew after being criticized for politics in some of his previous social media posts.

The film tells the story of Variyamkunnath Kunhahammed Haji, a fighter in the 1921 Malabar Revolution. Earlier, Prithviraj and others were victims of cyber attacks in the name of the film.

There was a campaign on social media using obscene language against the actor and his family. Some accused Variyamkunnath Kunhammad Haji of being anti-Hindu and and the cinema is trying to twist the history.
