Historical mission

vellapally

The Sree Narayana Dharmaparipalana Yogam, founded by Sree Narayana Gurudeva, has an epic place in the history of social renaissance in Kerala. It was the Guru's messages that turned the ‘madhouse’ of caste and creed and social discrimination, into a temple of religious harmony and the sanctuary of the Renaissance. The yogam is on a journey in search of new avenues of service.

If Sivagiri is the spiritual capital of Gurudarshan, Yogam is the work place. The basis of Sree Narayana Dharma is earthly progress with an emphasis on spirituality. It is the Guru's mission to open a new front against caste, religion, discrimination and inequality.
Sri Vellapally Natesan, the present head of Yogam and the sages of Sivagiri Math are working with one mind in the campaign of Gurudharma. The outcome of this unity is the increased participation of the Yoga leadership in the Sivagiri pilgrimages. The leadership of Sri Vellapally has also helped in reviving the Mahasamadhi Mandala Mahotsava of Gurudeva, which was cancelled 90 years ago, and in the conduct of the Yati Pooja.

Now it’s the silver jubilee year of Vellapally Natesan leadership of the Yogam and SN Trust. Faced with challenges, neglect, he is full of innocence and has an unwavering sense of purpose. He has been a guardian of the rights struggle and a valiant fighter for the past 25 years, keeping the yogam and the community together, without getting bogged down by protests, allegations or litigation.

Gurudeva laid the foundation stone for the renaissance of Kerala, and gave the liberated mantras of enlightenment and organized empowerment to the despised and oppressed mankind. The role played by the schools established by the Guru in making a large number of people, who were denied the freedom to walk around and the right to education, literate and honourable. Former Chief Minister and first Secretary of the SN Trust, Shri Shankar contribution on this account is unforgettable. During the 19 years of trust rule, 13 colleges and three schools were established for the community. In the quarter century since 1973, after R. Shankar, new colleges and schools were widely sanctioned in the state, but the 'leaderless community' was neglected.

The quarter century since Mr Vellapally took over the mantle of the Yogam and the SN Trust, it has been a golden age for the community in the field of education. There are 33 educational institutions established under the SN Trust alone. There are 16 colleges, including Law College, aided college and nursing college, five central schools and 12 aided higher secondary schools. Seven new colleges and 11 aided higher secondary schools are under the yogam. New UG and PG courses are there in aided colleges. The restoration of dilapidated school and college buildings also happened.

Under Sri Vellapally, a Silent Revolution took place through the yogam’s microfinance program, which helped millions of women in the community, including the starving, to live with dignity and support their families. Kerala has seen the consolation touch given by the General Secretary of the meeting who provided camps and food and shelter to hundreds of families in Kuttanad who lost everything in the two catastrophic floods. The 'Guru Karunyam Project' is another silent revolution of yogam leadership, providing food for the hungry during Covid's plague, home for the homeless, and online learning materials for thousands of needy students. It is also the centenary silver jubilee of the historic Ezhava Memorial dedicated to Maharaja Sreemoolam Thirunal by 13178 people under the leadership of Dr. Palpu for the right of Ezhavas to live like other human beings.

We wholeheartedly join in the celebrations of 84th birthday of Shri Vellapally Natesan, who has always been the benefactor of Kerala Kaumudi and the eternal driving force behind its growth, along with his family members and those who love and adore him. In the name of Gurudeva, we pray to God to give him the strength and longevity to remain engaged in the service of Gurudeva for long years to come.
