NEW DELHI: Indian teenager Rupal Chaudhary has achieved a historic feat in the Under-20 World Athletics Championship. Rupal, who won bronze in the women's 400m the other day, became the first Indian athlete to win two medals at the U-20 World Athletics Championships.
Earlier, Rupal was a member of the Indian team that won silver in the 4-400m mixed relay. Rupal won the bronze medal in the women's 400m with 51.85s, a personal best which she improved twice over two days. Britain's Yemi Mary John won the gold medal with a personal best of 51.50s, while Damaris Mutunga of Kenya clinched the silver in 51.71s in the 400m race.
Rupal, who hails from a small farming family in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, is the first Indian athlete to win a medal in the 400m at the Under-20 World Athletics Championships.
