LONDON: According to data, the number of ghost flights or completely empty passenger flights has significantly increased in Britain. It was found that there were 5,000 such commercial flights to and from Britain since 2019. A further 35,000 commercial flights were flown during this period with fewer than ten percent of the total seats occupied, as per data analysis by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Most of the ghost flights were reported during the Covid period. During this period, 62 empty flights left Luton Airport for Poland. Meanwhile, 663 flights to and from the US left Heathrow without a single passenger. There reason for these ghost flights remain unclear. Only airlines can provide the real reasons behind this.
