kk

COIMBATORE: Suspecting terrorist links behind the car blast in front of the Kottai Eswaran Temple near the Coimbatore Town Hall around 5 am on Sunday, the police are expanding their investigation towards the terrorist organization Al Ummah. Ukkadam GM Nagar native Jamesha Mubeen (25), who was in the car, was killed in the blast. The police also suspect that it was a suicide attack. Police have arrested five persons who had close connection with Jamesha Mubeen. The arrested persons are Firoz Ismail, Nawaz Ismail, Muhammed Dalha, Muhammed Riyas and Muhammed Azharuddin of G M Nagar in Ukkadam.

Police have found that Dalha, son of Nawab Khan, brother of Al Ummah leader Basha, had arranged the car for Jamesha. The car was handed over ten times before it came into the possession of the accused. The police are extending the investigation to Al Ummah as the Coimbatore blast in 1998 was planned by the organisation.

One of the two cylinders in the car exploded. The car split into two. Police have also found nails in the car. CCTV footage obtained from a place near Jamesha's house shows him carrying an object like a gas cylinder into the car. The probe team has also found Potassium nitrate, aluminium powder etc. from Jamesha's house.
