Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri shot dead in Punjab during protest outside temple

AMRITSAR: Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead in Punjab. The assailants fired at Suri while he was participating in a protest in front of a temple in Amritsar. It is reported that the Shiv Sena leader was shot four times during the protest dharna held in connection with the destruction of the temple idol at Gopal mandir this afternoon. Two people have been taken into police custody in the incident. The police revealed that the assailant fired with a 30 mm pistol.

Sudhir Suri was reportedly on the hitlist and was provided police security by the government. One man from the crowd opened fire in the presence of the police and Suri's 18 bodyguards. Suri fell on the ground as soon as he was shot and was rushed to the hospital but he died. The witness states that after the incident, a four-member gang escaped from the spot in a vehicle. The motive behind the attack is not clear. In a similar incident, Sidhu Moose Wala was also shot dead in Punjab. After the incident, a police team has been deployed in the area in view of the possibility of conflict.
