THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Strong protests were witnessed in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation in the letter controversy. When the BJP councillors protested by climbing atop the corporation office and raising a banner, the UDF protested by tying a black flag on the mayor's car. The police later untied the black flag.
The Mahila Congress staged strong protests. The activists who tried to enter the corporation premises were stopped by the police. In the meanwhile, the councillors and others intervened and stopped the move to arrest the Mahila Congress activist who entered the corporation premises. Chairs were hurled at the police during the protests staged by Mahila Congress. Hindu Aikya Vedi also protested.
Meantime, corporation standing committee chairman and parliamentary party secretary D R Anil gave a statement to the crime branch and vigilance in the letter controversy. Anil told the investigation team that he is not aware of Mayor Arya Rajendran's letter and has not seen the letter. A letter was drafted to appoint Kudumbashree workers. It was drafted only for publicity. Anil's statement is that he does not know how the letter was leaked from the office.
Meanwhile, the Congress has decided to intensify the protest demanding the mayor's resignation over the letter controversy. BJP councillors will also protest. Heavy security has been imposed in the area.
