India's first private rocket successfully launched by ISRO

CHENNAI: Vikram-S, India's first ever private rocket, was successfully launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 11:30 am on Friday. It was built by 'Skyroot Aerospace'.


The launch was initially planned between 12th and 16th of this month. But the date was changed due to rain. Pawan Kumar Chandana is the owner of Skyroot Aerospace Pvt Ltd, the manufacturer of the low cost rockets that takes less manufacturing time.

Vikram 1, Vikram 2 and Vikram 3 rockets will be launched next year. These are four stage rockets. The first three stages have solid fueled Kalam engines and the fourth stage has liquid fueled Raman engines. These rockets are on par with New Zealand's Electron and China's Kaityusha rockets.

Vikram S was given the name of Vikram Sarabhai, the father of Indian space research. The launch pad at Sriharikota is being used under contract with ISRO for a small fees.
