HAMILTON: The second ODI of India's tour of New Zealand held today was abandoned due to heavy rain. The match was suspended when India’s score was 89 runs in 13 overs. Despite the match getting abadoned, cricket fans have raised criticism regarding today's team selection. Captain Shikhar Dhawan said that Deepak Hooda was given opportunity replacing Sanju Samson as the team needed a sixth bowler. But the fans didn’t like excluding Malayali player Sanju Samson from the playing XI. But Rishabh Pant who is not in a good form was included in the team. This angered the fans and they reacted harshly against BCCI.

Hashtags like ‘It’s tough to be Sanju Samson’ and ‘justice for Sanju Samson’ are trending on social media. Although Sanju was included in the T20 and ODI squads for the New Zealand tour he could only play in the first ODI. Sanju scored 36 runs off 38 balls. India lost the match. Hooda was included as the sixth bowler in the team in the second ODI after failing despite having five bowlers in the last match.
