KOLKATA: West Indies all-rounder and former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star Andre Russell has announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 37-year-old made the announcement shortly after KKR released him ahead of the 2026 player auction.

Russell’s decision marks the end of one of the most memorable IPL careers. He played for KKR across 12 seasons, starting in 2014, and was a key contributor to the team’s two title wins. From the next season, Russell will join KKR as the team’s Power Coach, according to the franchise management.

In his IPL career, Russell scored 2,651 runs and took 123 wickets from 140 matches. Known as the “Big Man” of massive sixes, KKR hopes he will continue to make an impact in his new coaching role.
