HEADINGLEY: India surpassed a lead of 150 runs in the first cricket Test against England in Headingley. India are 153 for three at lunch on the fourth day. Captain Shubman Gill (8) was the only Indian batsman to be dismissed on the fourth day.
The Indian captain was clean bowled by Brydon Carse. Opener KL Rahul (72*) scored a determined half-century to help the team surpass the lead with ease. Rahul and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant (31*) are now at the crease.
India lost openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (4) and Sai Sudarshan (30) on the third day. For England, Brydon Carse took two wickets while captain Ben Stokes took one. Pant and Rahul were cautious at the crease after Gill's early dismissal on the fourth day. India managed just 63 runs in 24 overs in the first session.
Centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, captain Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant helped India put 471 runs on the first innings. In reply, England scored 465 runs on the strength of a century from Ollie Pope and half-centuries from Harry Brook and Ben Duckett. Jasprit Bumrah took a fifer.
