Mithun Manhas is new BCCI President; Malayali Jayesh George appointed Women's Premier League Chairman

NEW DELHI: Former Delhi captain and domestic cricket legend Mithun Manhas was appointed as the new president of the BCCI. Rajeev Shukla, who took over as interim president after Roger Binny stepped down, will continue as vice-president. Manhas, who played 157 first-class matches in his career, is the 37th president of the BCCI. Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh officially announced Mithun Manhas's appointment through an email.

In his sporting career, Mithun has represented three franchises in the IPL - Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors and Chennai Super Kings. Despite his stupendous form in the domestic format, Mithun never received a call from the national team. He has also worked as the coach of the Gujarat Titans in the 2022 IPL season.

The BCCI announced two new selectors for the selection committee. RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha are the new additions to the selection panel. They will now be part of the selection panel along with the existing selectors Shiv Sundar Das, Ajit Agarkar and Ajay Ratra.

The new appointments were made after Roger Binny stepped down as BCCI president. He resigned after turning 70. Following this, Mithun Manhas was elected as the president in an unofficial meeting held in Delhi on September 20. Meanwhile, Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) president Jayesh George was elected as the first chairman of the Women's Premier League. This year's election has the distinction of a Malayali reaching an important position in the governance of India's largest cricket board.
