RR's boywonder spoils Sanju's CSK debut, leads Rajasthan to dominating win

GUWAHATI: Sanju Samson started his Chennai Super Kings debut with a defeat. The Malayali star's former team, Rajasthan Royals, defeated Chennai by 8 wickets. Chasing a target of 128 runs set by CSK, the Royals achieved the score in 12.1 overs with the loss of only two wickets. Sanju's dismissal after scoring just six runs left the fans disappointed.

Chasing a small target, teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave an electrifying start to the Royals. Vaibhav was dismissed for 52 runs off 17 balls with four fours and five sixes. Vaibhav also shared a 75-run stand for the first wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal off 38 balls. Pacer Anshul Kamboj dismissed Vaibhav. Wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel was dismissed for 18 (9). Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 38* (36), and captain Riyan Parag remained unbeaten on 14* (11).

Batting first, Chennai could only manage 127 runs in 19.4 overs. England all-rounder Jamie Overton, who came to the crease at number eight, scored 43 (36) runs to take CSK's score past three figures.

Sanju Samson 6 (7), captain Ruturaj Gaikwad 6 (11), and Ayush Mhatre 0 (1) were dismissed quickly, leaving the score at 19 for three. At this stage, CSK brought in Sarfaraz Khan as an impact sub. The player managed to score 17 (12) runs. Matthew Short 2 (7), Karthik Sharma 18 (15), and Shivam Dube 6 (4) also disappointed. The scores of the other batsmen who were dismissed were Noor Ahmed 1 (9) and Matt Henry 5 (7). Anshul Kamboj remained unbeaten on 7*(10).

While Sanju couldn't shine for Chennai, Ravindra Jadeja, who left Chennai and returned to his first IPL team, Rajasthan, put out a fine bowling display. He took two wickets for just 18 runs in his three overs. Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger also took two wickets each. Brijesh Sharma, Sandeep Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi got one wicket each.
