MUMBAI: Chennai Super Kings thrashed Mumbai Indians by 103 runs in a dominant performance at the Wankhede Stadium, thanks to a brilliant century from Sanju Samson and a four-wicket haul by Akeal Hosein.
Sanju Samson remained unbeaten on 101 and played a crucial role in anchoring the innings after Chennai lost wickets at regular intervals. Reflecting on his knock, the Malayali batter said he focused on adapting to the conditions rather than sticking to a pre-planned approach.
“I try to keep things simple. This was not a typical Wankhede pitch. The ball was holding up a bit. We lost a few wickets quickly, so I felt it was important for one batter to stay till the end. That was my plan, and it worked,” Sanju said after the match.
He added that reading the game situation is more important than pre-determining a strategy. “You don’t need to decide beforehand how you are going to play. The game tells you what to do. It’s my responsibility to understand the situation and what the team needs. If wickets hadn’t fallen, I might have gotten out earlier. But once we lost wickets, finishing strongly became important,” he said.
Sanju is currently third in the run charts this season, with 293 runs from seven matches at a strike rate of 178.66. Abhishek Sharma leads the list with 323 runs and holds the Orange Cap.
