RAWALPINDI: India secured a commanding 61-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the highly anticipated T20 World Cup clash held in Colombo on Sunday. Following the defeat, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha acknowledged that the team’s spinners failed to make an impact on the pitch, which he cited as a key factor behind the loss.
Meanwhile, the result has sparked strong reactions back home, with former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar openly criticizing the management of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its chairman, Mohsin Naqvi.
Akhtar questioned the board’s handling of the national side, particularly its decision to persist with senior players despite a string of underwhelming performances. Prominent players including Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Shadab Khan were unable to deliver impactful performances in the high-stakes encounter against India.
"One guy, he doesn't even know he is the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. How will the team run now? You’re saying one guy, you’ve made him a superstar, he can’t win a single match. You’ve made him a star who can’t win a single living match," Akhtar said.
"You know what the biggest crime in the world is? The biggest crime in the world is that you give a big job to an incompetent and uneducated person. When you give a big job to an incompetent and ignorant person, he will destroy the country. He will bring down any organisation. The example is in front of you, you're intelligent enough to understand," Akhtar added.
The defeat has intensified concerns among Pakistani fans, who are increasingly frustrated by the team’s struggles in crucial matches against India. Supporters have urged both the players and the management to take responsibility and implement meaningful reforms to improve future performances.
