THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The International Cricket Council (ICC) clarified that there is no threat or impediment to conducting the Twenty20 World Cup matches involving Bangladesh in India. The new report comes after a security assessment. Sources close to the ICC also clarified that no letter was sent to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) agreeing to the security concerns raised by the Bangladesh team visiting India.
Bangladesh Sports Advisor Asif Nazrul had said that the ICC security authorities informed him of security concerns if Mustafizur Rahman is in the team. Also, he said that ICC warned him that it would be dangerous for Bangladesh fans to wear team jerseys in public places, at a time when Hindu minorities are brutally killed in the country. However, the ICC clarified that no such letter was sent and no player was asked to be excluded. ICC sources said that inspections in Kolkata and Mumbai, where Bangladesh's first round matches are scheduled, found no security threat.
Meanwhile, reports as of Monday said that the Thiruvananthapuram Karyavattom Greenfield Stadium is being considered to host Bangladesh's matches. The reports came out that the ICC has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board that the matches can be held in Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai instead of Kolkata and Mumbai. However, Devjit Saikia denied receiving any such proposal. The BCB has come out demanding that Bangladesh's World Cup matches be shifted from India after Mustafizur Rahman was released from the Kolkata Knight Riders, following outrage.
