NEW DELHI: US President Donald Trump has imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on India as 'penalty' for the continued import of crude oil from Russia. With this, the US tariff on India will increase to 50 percent. White House sources said that Trump signed the order in this regard.
The US and its allies had imposed sanctions on Russia in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine. What angered the US was India's massive import of crude oil from Russia in the meantime. Trump alleged that India was helping Russia through this. The US had earlier imposed a 25 percent tariff on Indian goods. The new 25 percent additional tariff was imposed in addition to this.
