WASHINGTON: A recent report is claiming that Iran is behind the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump. According to the report, intelligence agencies stated that they had received information about an Iranian conspiracy to assassinate Trump a few weeks ago. Trump's security was increased on the basis of this information.
As per the report, Iran plotted Trump's assassination as revenge against the killing of Iran's military commander Qasem Soleimani in a drone attack in 2020. Iran had earlier hinted that Trump was behind the killing of Qasem Soleimani and that there would be retaliation. After Trump became the presidential candidate, intelligence officials had warned him to refrain from holding campaign rallies and speeches in open spaces. However, Trump went ahead with the rallies regardless of the warning.
Even though the authorities are claiming that Trump's security was beefed up following the threat, several media outlets have come forward by pointing out the security lapses during the rally in Pennsylvania. They are asking how a young man with a gun could climb on top of a building next to the venue of Trump's rally despite the heavy security in the area. President Joe Biden has ordered an investigation into how the 20-year-old youth carrying a gun was able to safely reach the top of the building near the venue of the rally.
