WASHINGTON: The Senate supports US President Donald Trump's military action against Iran. The Senate voted to reject a bipartisan resolution aimed at preventing airstrikes in Iran and requiring prior congressional approval for war. With this, Trump was allowed to proceed with military action in Iran without hindrance.
The resolution was defeated by 53 votes to 47 in a vote in the 100-member Senate. In the Senate, where the Republican Party has a majority, the majority of members took a stand in favor of Trump's war policy. The Senate accepted Trump's argument that Iran is a threat to peace in the region and that military action is necessary.
Meantime, US and Israel are continuing their attacks on Iran. The Israeli military stated that it has launched another attack targeting military facilities in Tehran. The death toll in Iran in the conflict has exceeded 1,000. Israel has destroyed several security facilities. Iran continues to retaliate against US and Israeli facilities in the Gulf countries.
Another drone attack occurred on the Aramco oil refinery in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia. Drones targeting the UAE were destroyed by French Rafale fighter jets. A drone crashed near the US consulate in Dubai. Iran's ballistic missiles targeting Turkey knocked out NATO air defense systems. NATO strongly condemned the attempted attack.
