WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump increased import duties on India by 25 percent a few days ago. In addition to the 25 percent announced in the first phase, the tariff is presently 50 percent. However, US Vice President J D Vance is justifying President Trump's additional tariff announcement against India as part of ending the Ukraine-Russia war.
‘Trump announced aggressive economic action against India to prevent the Russians from getting rich through their oil economy,' Vance responded to a media. Vance justified this by saying that it was to prevent Russia from attacking Ukraine. Vance expressed confidence that the United States would be able to effectively end the Russia-Ukraine war. The United States was against Russia even before it provided cheap oil to India.
Vance expressed confidence that the Russia-Ukraine war could be ended. He said that such actions have been taken by both countries in recent weeks. Vance also threatened to isolate Russia if it does not stop its aggression.
India-US relations have not been going well since Trump took office for the second time. The US is presently imposing a tariff of about 50 percent on India, accusing it of being friendly to Russia. However, the US has not taken strict action against China, which is the largest importer of Russian crude, or other European countries.
