MANAMA: Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar is all set to introduce more facilities for expatriates returning home for vacation who wish to obtain a driving license. The minister's announcement came in response to a petition highlighting the challenges faced by non-resident Indians (NRIs) in securing test dates for driving licenses.
The Minister was in Bahrain to participate in the Onam celebrations organized by the Kerala Samajam there. During the function, Rajesh Kodothu, President of Kasargod District Pravasi Association and member of the Bahrain Kerala Samajam Core Committee, gave a petition to the Minister, highlighting concerns regarding the difficulties faced by expatriates in obtaining driving license test dates in Kerala. After going through this petition, the minister announced that a system would be put in place to provide driving test dates to expatriates within five days.
Usually, expats visit their homes for a month's vacation. During this time, they attempt to obtain a driving license. However, after submitting their application, they often receive a test date two months later. By then, their vacation will come to an end, and they will have to return without attending the test. Many expatriates have faced this issue, applying multiple times for the driving test but failing to obtain a license due to scheduling conflicts with their vacation.
