Benefit or setback for expatriates? UAE government with warning, heavy fine if violated

DUBAI: The government has issued a warning to companies that provide employment to those arriving in the UAE on visitor visas. The government has warned that heavy fines will be imposed on those who violate the law. Fines ranging from AED 100,000 to AED 1000,000 will be imposed for violations of the law, such as employing people without a work permit, employing people with the promise of permanent employment, and bringing people to the UAE on a visit visa without providing employment.

Such institutions were fined from 50,000 dirhams to 2 lakh dirhams earlier. Some firms used to promise employment after the visit visa expires. Many people do not even get paid for working during this period. The amendment of the law is part of protecting the rights of those who work in this way.

Earlier, the UAE Labor Law was amended to impose fines ranging from AED 1 lakh to AED 1 million for employment-related fraud.

Labour experts point out that making a UAE national do the wrong work and not giving him a job after issuing a work permit can lead to fines. The law requires private companies in the UAE to increase their number of Emirati employees in skilled occupations. Reports indicate that some organizations are committing employment fraud misusing this.
