
MUSCAT: Two Malayalees were killed in a sudden flash flood that struck Oman on Saturday. One person is missing. The victims were identified as Shamla and Yusuf, natives of Trithala. Ramla, a native of Trithala, is missing. The search is ongoing to find her. Six people, including four children, were rescued. The vehicle they were travelling in was caught in a flash flood.
Shamla is the wife of Lubishad, the leader of the INCAS Oman (Indian National Congress and Associates) in Oman. She had travelled with Yusuf's family for Eid.
The accident reportedly took place in the southern Al Batinah Governorate. Three vehicles were involved in the accident. Rescue operations were led by Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) personnel. Thirty-five people were rescued from various locations. Some people who were trapped inside their homes were also rescued.
Heavy rains led to a deluge in the area, causing severe flash floods. Vehicles were swept away in the heavy rains that lashed the city. Authorities have strictly instructed citizens and residents to be extremely cautious and avoid crossing rivers. They have been asked to strictly follow the instructions given by the authorities.
Omanis are in deep fear as the flood disaster comes amid the fear of war. The weather department predicted heavy rain in the coming days and till 30th of this month. Some mountain roads have been closed.
