SANAA: The central government denied the request made by religious scholar Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar to send his representatives to the discussion related to the cancellation of the death sentence of Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya, who is still in Yemeni prison. The Central Government rejected the Action Council's proposal to send a six-member mediation team. The decision was made after the central government deemed it unnecessary to involve more members, despite talks already ongoing between the two families.
At the same time, Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar’s office hinted at the possibility of the death penalty being cancelled soon. The central government asked organisations, including that of Kanthapuram, to refrain from spreading false claims regarding the issue. Meanwhile, Evangelist leader Dr. KA Paul also demanded that Kanthapuram apologise for the claim that the death sentence has been cancelled.
On July 25, 2017, Nimisha Priya murdered Yemeni citizen Talal Abdul Mahdi, who allegedly tortured her for months after promising her help to set up her clinic.
