DOHA: The authorities of the Indian embassy in Qatar have issued strict instructions for the attention of expatriates. The Indian embassy has urged Indian citizens planning to travel to Qatar to make sure their luggage does not contain any objects that are forbidden in the nation.

As per the warning issued by the Indian embassy, Indian nationals should not carry any forbidden goods or intoxicating substances in their possession in Qatar. Several Indians have been arrested in the past in Qatar for possession of drugs and other prohibited items.

The Indian embassy has warned that many Indian nationals are facing legal action in such cases in Qatar. People caught in such cases will face trial and severe legal action as per the Qatari legal system. Hence, people travelling to Qatar should check their baggage repeatedly before departure to ensure that they do not have any prohibited items with them, the embassy said.

The embassy came up with instructions to the Indian nationals as inspections have been tightened in Qatar as part of strengthening the legal process in cases, including drug trafficking.
