TEHRAN: Iran has warned that it will withdraw from the recently brokered ceasefire agreement if Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon. While Iran expressed readiness for a two-week truce with the United States, Israel maintained that Lebanon would not be included in the cessation of hostilities. Following the announcement, the Israeli army launched a massive offensive, firing hundreds of missiles at Hezbollah targets across southern Lebanon and Beirut. In response to these strikes, Al Jazeera reported that Tehran has formally threatened to abandon the ceasefire agreement.
The truce comes after U.S. President Donald Trump issued a Tuesday night ultimatum, threatening the "complete destruction" of Iran if a deal was not reached. Through mediation efforts by Pakistan, the two nations subsequently reached a two-week agreement, which Trump hailed as a "complete victory" for the United States. Under the terms of the deal, the U.S. will halt its attacks for 14 days; in exchange, Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping safely. Additionally, Trump stated that Iran’s enriched uranium will be "handled safely" under international supervision during the ceasefire period.
