KUWAIT CITY: The fire tragedy in an apartment near Kuwait Mangaf Ahmadi Governorate has put a whole nation to grieve while some others are yet to recover from the shocking deaths of their dearest ones. But the current tragedy will surely bring back the horrific images of 2009 for some who have been part of the country's transitional changes. What makes the 2009 incident more ghastly is the fact that it was the handiwork of an enigmatic woman, Nasra Yussef Mohammad al-Enezi.

On the night of August 15, 2009, as many as 57 people were charred to death in a tragedy during a wedding ceremony in Oyoun, Jahra Governorate. 90 people were injured in the incident. A 23-year-old Nasra Youssef Muhammad Al-Inesi poured petrol on the tent where the ceremony was held and set it on fire in revenge for her husband's remarriage.

The tent turned into a fireball just three minutes after Nasra ignited it. Women and children, dancing inside the tent were burned to death at over 500 degrees Celsius. There was just one door to get in and out which aggravated the tragedy and increased the death numbers. Nasra was arrested the next day and hanged in January 2017. It is mentioned that she was in a state of near collapse at the time of her execution in 2017.
