ISLAMABAD: Reports said at least 30 including women and children, were killed in a bomb attack by the Pakistani Air Force in its own province. The bomb attack was at around 2 am in the village of Matre Dara village located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Pakistani fighter jets dropped eight LS-6 bombs from JF-17 fighter jets. Major portion of the village was reportedly destroyed in the bomb attack. Several people were also seriously injured.
Local media reported that the airstrike targeted Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants hiding in the area. However, all the dead were civilians. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a province that shares a border with Afghanistan. Several counter-terrorism operations have been carried out in the region in recent times. On September 13 and 14, 31 TTP militants were killed in two separate encounters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The army had announced that seven militants were killed in an encounter in Dera Ismail Khan district yesterday. Three of them were Afghan nationals and two were suicide bombers, the army's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations, said.
