ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has claimed that the ceasefire agreement with India is a historic victory for Pakistan. He praised the Pakistani army and alleged that India used the Pahalgam attack to attack them. Shehbaz was addressing the nation after the ceasefire came into effect.

"Our operation was against hatred, aggression and religious fanaticism. This is a victory of our principles and respect. We did that with an enemy that suits an honourable nation. This is a victory not just for the armed forces, but for the whole nation. Pakistan decided to respond in a language that the enemy can understand. We accepted the ceasefire because we are a self-respecting and upright nation," said Shehbaz Sharif.

However, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said it was Pakistan's own Director General of Military Operations who placed the call to New Delhi, and there has been no compromise from India in this regard.

"Pakistan is a victim of a war waged by India. The Indian army is targeting civilians, mosques and infrastructure. I thank U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Kingdom," Sharif said.

He also mentioned that China is Pakistan's most loyal friend. Sharif appealed to the global community to help resolve long-standing disputes such as the Indus Waters Treaty and the Kashmir issue.
