WELLINGTON: Many Malayalis travel to different countries in search of jobs, but some countries attract special interest and closeness. One such country is New Zealand. However, the latest news coming from the country is not very positive. Recent reports suggest that a large number of locals are leaving the country. Migration has become a topic of discussion again after reports that former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has moved to Australia.

In the last four years, migration among people aged 30 to 50 has increased significantly, rising from 18,000 to 43,000. In this situation, the migration of prominent figures has also drawn attention. Jacinda Ardern has reportedly moved to Sydney. She is currently living in Australia with her husband Clarke Gayford and their child. Experts say the rising cost of living in New Zealand and challenges in the job market are forcing many people, including well-known personalities, to leave the country.

Some residents say living costs in major Australian cities such as Melbourne are much lower than in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. According to estimates, about 125,000 New Zealand citizens left the country last year.

Economist Brad Olsen warned that the departure of experienced and skilled workers could affect the economic stability of New Zealand. As locals leave, immigrants from countries like India, the Philippines, and China are filling the gap. Most of them are working in sectors such as construction, IT, and agriculture.
