TEHRAN: Amid rising fears of a possible conflict between Iran and the United States, the Indian Embassy has issued an advisory to Indian citizens in Iran. The embassy has asked them to leave the country as soon as possible using available transport options. The advisory has been issued keeping in mind the safety of Indian nationals.

All Indian citizens in Iran, including students, businesspersons and tourists, have been advised to leave the country. The embassy also urged Indian nationals and people of Indian origin in Iran to remain extremely cautious and avoid areas where protests or demonstrations are taking place.

The Indian government had issued a similar warning on January 5, 2026, when Iranian authorities took action against protesters. The embassy has asked those preparing to leave to keep their passports, identity cards and other travel documents with them at all times. A special helpline has also been released for Indian citizens:

Phone: +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, +989932179359
Email: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in

Fresh student protests have broken out in cities such as Tehran and Mashhad amid growing pressure from the United States over the nuclear deal. University students have taken to the streets against the Iranian government. Students say this is the second phase of anti-government protests that began in late December. Clashes have also been reported on university campuses.
